Our Review Sizing is the first topic that these stockings brought to mind, not least because our test pair came in size 6 and the size chart on the packet only goes up to 5. Turing to StockingsHQ for help we found that they say there are 8 sizes based on height as follows: small (4'10"-5'2"), medium (5'2"-5'4"), large (5'5"-5'8"), x large (5'7"-5'10"), 2x large (5'10"-6'1"), 3x large (5'11"-6'2"), 4x large (5'7"-6'1" extra wide), 5x large (5'7"-6'1" extra extra wide). So our size 6 is actually XXXL intended to fit up to 6’2”. Sizing is quite important as these stockings are being reviewed with a Rago girdle that has fixed straps so the sizing and the stretch of the stocking need to deliver the welt to the suspender. Through the window in the packet we could see the heavy lace welt of the stockings, if ever there was a time when quality metal suspenders clasps are required this is it. Out of the packet we could see that the welt on our gazelle sample was several shades lighter than the legs, very nice contrast; we could also measure the welt, a whopping 15cm (6”). The legs are ever so soft and put us in mind up top quality tights of a similar denier, reinforced toes and a lightly shaped heels complete the detailing. Note: the packet notes state a mesh heel and the picture shoes one but the detail was not present on the stockings we tested. Sizing is on the generous side of accurate. Size 6, and we imagine 7 and 8 too, are long enough to reach the very top of a 35” leg. Depending on how long you like your suspender straps you may want to go down a size, just remember you have 6” of lace to keep concealed under your skirt so don’t go too low. The lace top takes a suspender clasp perfectly. 20 Denier is not overly sheer and as such the perfect even colour of these stockings covers skin blemishes exceptionally well. Our one issue with these stockings is that there is a definite ridge around you leg where the lace welt is sewn onto the leg. Very classy and comfortable stockings which are ever so close to being perfect. There are so many little flaws but somehow we still can’t help loving them. Clearly conceived as hold ups we would choose the hold up version in preference to the stockings. 12 September 2011 |
