Our Review
100% Nylon... No Lycra. Arguably the stocking for the hosiery purist, although fans of 100% silk stockings may disagree.
The lightness of these stockings is a joy, they hardly seem to be there at all when you hold them in your hand. Unlike the Silk Champs Elysees Stockings from Cervin they are smooth rather than soft, an entirely different feel.
There really is no stretch at all in these tights, our web master couldn’t even get his hand into the foot to look at the detailing; and the detailing is fascinating.
We were told there was a sandal toe but that is not so, it is a reinforced toe. The reinforcement at the toe continues under the foot around the shaped heel and terminates in the pyramid heel detail. The seam runs from under the toe all the way to the top of the stocking through the keyhole detail on the welt. The keyhole detail is fascinating and we have to confess we have no idea why it is as it is. The welt is formed by folding over the top part of the stocking and sewing it down but where the seam is rather than the seam being present on both the inner and outer layer of material the inner layer is opened out to form a circle. On the up side this details provides a little stretch but it is also a potential point of weakness; fixing a suspender there will look great but increase the risk of a ladder.
The other oddities, clearly visible in the photographs are on the left side of each heel there is a pale line that looks almost like a tiny ladder, and either side of the seam in the calf area there is a row of tiny dots either side of the seam known as “picot lines”.
Sizing is accurate and perhaps a little on the small side in the foot and ankle. The fit is as good as can be expected from non-stretch hosiery; any bending of knee and ankle will leave creases that you will be smoothing and pulling out. Of course all of this is part of the look and experience that you want from classic 100% hosiery.
We love it!
