Clio 653 Seamed Hold Ups

Our Review

Clio offer French style at prices a little less exotic than some of the better known French brands, but is that at the expense of quality?

15 Denier, 85% Nylon and 15% Lycra is a recipe that we have come to expect from Italian/Polish brands and we have to say that the slightly harsh texture of these stockings would have had us guessing these stockings came from further East than France.

This is the hold up version of the of Clio style number 654.  We love the numbering of styles, it makes our life so much easier even if it does lack a little romance.

The size chart details four sizes based on height and weight.  We tested size 4 which should fit up to 89kg (195 lbs) and 170cm (5’7”).  Sizing appears generous for weight but very limited for length, so of course we got a tall and leggy model to test them!

Strangely for stockings with Lycra these hold ups seem reluctant to stretch at first but a minute or two of exposure to body heat is all it takes for them to relax. The size chart is a bit of a nonsense, our test pair, once stretched, topped out 32” from the heel, that is a lot of leg for a girl of 5’7”. Fit is very good and the twin silicone bands on the 7cm deep lace top do a fair job of keeping the stockings in place.

With their reinforced sole, fitted heel and back seam these hold ups really do give the look of classic seamed stockings.    The seam is quite wide and lacks definition, certainly it will not bear close inspection, a pity when the heel detail is so good. At least the seam sits straight with ease.

Colour is perfectly even and the matt finish is classy.

The harshness of the material is not apparent when you are wearing these stockings but you will notice it if you touch your leg.  If you cross your legs be aware that everyone will hear.

Quite price premium over the equivalent stockings which you choose will be a matter of preference, but we would go for the stockings.
