Our Review

This is the first, and so far only style of stockings that we have seen from French maker Dore Dore.  Available in 5 sizes which it is claimed will fit up to a height of 181cm and a weight of 84kg... we do wish stockings size charts used foot size and leg length as per Gio.

If you ever watched films set in 1940s England when “spivs” and American GIs were assaulting the virtue of English maidens armed with Nylons you will have a good idea of what these stockings look like; although thankfully the colour is less orange.  Perfectly smooth, beautifully soft and with a lightness that gives no clue as to their relatively high denier then feel at once delicate and durable.

Detailing is simple but effective.  RHT (Reinforced Heel and Toe to those of you not up with the terminology) and finished with a plain welt.  The stocking is knitted with some 20cm of heavier knit at the top, 18cm of which is turned over and stitched down to make the 9cm deep welt.  All beautifully finished.

Well you can see why some of those young ladies surrendered their virtue.  Classic stockings like this look and feel gorgeous.  Perfect even colour with just a hint of sheen and absolutely smooth to the touch.

Stretchy is not a word you generally associate with classic 100% nylon stockings so we were surprised to see it in the description on the packet. There is certainly enough stretch to endure that the voile fits the leg well enough to have just a provocative crease at ankle or knee rather than full on “wrinkly stockings” but there is almost no stretch in length at all; perhaps 10cm in length from how they come out of the packet to fully stretched.  Unless you are very slim in the leg or like your stocking welts just above the knee you should not buy these stockings if you are over about 5’9” or particularly long in the leg.  Our tip would be to go up one size on the chart provided by StockingsHQ and to ignore the sizing on the packet entirely.

The welt takes a suspender clasp perfectly and under the tension of the suspender strap has a natural beauty.

These are stunningly good stockings and they have a little secret.  The 20 denier strength comes from knitting two 10 denier filaments together, so 20 denier strength with 10 denier feel.

Tested with the Cleopatra 6 Strap Suspender Belt.

If they will fit you then there is no better way to spend £12.
