Our Review We have been looking forward to trying Eleganti stockings, they are knitted in England on machines that belonged to Charnos in the heyday of stockings. They are classic 100% nylon stockings made with a choice of 5 designs, Point heel, Cuban heel, Havana Heel, Manhattan heel, and Reinforced Heel & Toe (RHT) that has no seam. There are five sizes to choose from designed for heights from 4’10” to over 6’, and as these are non-stretch stockings sizing will we expect be critical. There are 6 colours; black, chocolate, copper, baby pink, white & lilac. You cannot accuse Eleganti of slick packaging, the same packet is used for all the styles and it features a 1940’s style pin up admiring her seams... with a bit of aging the packet could pass as antique. We love it. Size and style are indicated by biro marks in circles next to the options and colour you can just see through the packet. This is clearly an artisan product not a mass produced one. Taking the stockings from the packet is time travel... they way they look and move conjures up images of cads and bounders seducing. virtuous young women with rare and exotic hosiery. Detailing is plain, simple and utterly gorgeous. The toe and heel are of course reinforced, the toe is knitted so as to minimise the chance of holes running into the foot and leg, the fully shaped heel is delight. The transition to the welt is provided by a deep and slightly stretchy sub-welt. The welt is a deep one at fully 5” (13cm), plain and designed to take suspender clasps day after day. The size chart considers only height and this is OK as far as it goes, we have no issues with the length, the largest size will easily cope with the longest of legs without exhausting the extension of your suspender straps. Foot size is not considered and this will be an issue for taller ladies with bigger feet, anything over a UK size 7 and you probably won’t get the your heel set correctly in the heel of the stocking. Colour on the leg is perfectly even and enhanced by a soft shine . Fit is great too; just a momentary hint of wrinkles at the knee when you go from sitting to standing... enough to let those in the know see that you are wearing real stockings. The finish is smooth and soft to the touch with just enough texture to give a little swish when you cross your legs. We know you won’t be showing off your stocking tops but they look stunning under the tension of suspenders and the moire pattern created by the two layers of sheer nylon catches and holds the eye. Great quality at a very sensible price... as ever with stockings buy two pairs the same to extend their life in case of accidents. Highly recommended stockings suitable for any occasion and time of day, just remember the limitations around she size. Tested with the Rago 21 Shapette Waist Cincher 10 June 2011 |
