Our Review
In the current market you don’t get much in the way of hosiery for under £10 so classic French RHT stockings for £8.50 are a real find... be aware though a little bird tells us that they could be far more than £10 when new stocks come in.
There are five sizes to choose from covering heights and weights up to 185cm and 95kg (6’1” and 209lbs), although not both together. We do feel we should take Gerbe to task a little for using a sizing scheme better suited to tights, shoe size and leg length would have been more help.
Classic stockings need a real suspender belt with proper metal clasps and broad adjustable straps, for this review we used a Cleopatra 6-strap suspender.
First impressions are of a bygone age. These soft matt finish stockings are a masterpiece in simplicity. Fully shaped and reinforced at toe and heel but in a way designed to blend in and be nearly indistinguishable. The top of the stocking is knitted a little heavier with the top 5cm turned over and sewn to create welt and sub-welt.
Even the largest size looks small but despite the absence of Lycra in the fibre there is still plenty of stretch. Even on a large foot the heel will sit correctly positioned and there is length enough for the leggiest of girls. The welt takes a suspender clasp perfectly and looks a treat under the tension of the suspenders.
Fit is excellent, there is no hint of bagging or sagging at knee or ankle. The stretch of the stockings together with the stretch in the suspender makes for a very comfortable wearing experience. If you are used to tights or hold ups and never tried stockings these would be a great first pair.
With perfect even colour and a flawless finish you get a look classier than the price suggests. At 20 denier the look is sheer yet conceals minor blemishes very well, and 20 denier is durable enough to last well as day to day hosiery. Buy at least two identical pairs and you should enjoy these stockings for months.
