Our Review 15 denier is by far the most usual for French made stockings, that sweet spot where you should get great colour, a sheer look and enough durability to get good wear. This particular style is made with 15% Lycra and so is designed to stretch. The Gerbe size chart goes from 0 to 8 but this style comes only in sizes 1 to 4 which means a maximum height of 5’11” (180cm) and a maximum weight of 176lbs (80kg) we shall see if the stretch allows any extra latitude. First impression; what a super shiny satin top! 7 cm deep it is sewn onto the top of the stocking with no sub-welt, looks stunning but how will it take suspender clasps? The leg is fully shaped (boarded) and finished with a reinforced toe detail. The toe feels quite stiff and hard, probably 100% nylon, and very durable. Even the largest size looks alarmingly small, but no need to worry there was more than enough stretch to reach the very top of a 33” leg. As for how the satin top take suspender clips, well we tested these stockings with a StockingsHQ Fashion Suspense V Clip 6 Strap Suspender Belt which has two clips on the end of each of its six straps and it proved to be a fortunate choice. Fastening the clasps was far from easy, and having 12 made it a time consuming task, but at least all the straps were still attached even after one or two clasps came unfastened. Fit is excellent and the finish on the leg gives perfect, even flawless colour. Gerbe say they are shiny, we would say they have a slight sheen. The combination of the satin stocking top and a satin suspender belt like the one we used in our test is a gorgeous combination, it is almost a crime to hide it under a skirt. Not stockings to wear when you are in a hurry and you do need a very good suspender belt but quite gorgeous and ideal for that big night out. 20 June 2011 |
