Our Review
Regular readers of our sister site at www.tightsfashion.co.uk will be very familiar with the the Gerbe range but this is the first time we have seen stockings from this French manufacturer.
The Sun Satin range comes in a variety of weights of which this is the most sheer at 8 denier. Gerbe produce a wide range of sizes from 0 to 8 but you need to read the packets carefully as the same size chart is used for both tights and stockings and most designs only come in sizes 1 to 5, as is the case with Sun Satin Stockings.
One of the things we like best about Gerbe tights is the waistband so we did wonder if they would do anything special with their stocking tops, it came as quite a surprise then to find just a very light and quite narrow plain welt. There were no other surprises in the detailing, just a sheer shaped leg with a lightly reinforced toe.
These are incredibly light stockings, so much so that at first we thought there was only one in the packet! They do not look overly big even in size 4 but with 23% Lycra there should be masses of stretch.
As ever we tested with our 6-strap Nylon Dreams Powermesh suspender belt. If you don’t already own a good quality 6-strap belt with metal clips then we strongly recommend that you get one to get the best from your stockings.
A little care was needed when fastening the suspenders as the welt was under 4 cm deep once on the leg, clip too high or low and you risk damaging the stocking. The welt may have been narrow but it took a suspender beautifully. Length was not a issue and even our leggy tester could fully shorten their suspender straps.
The look on the leg oozes quality. Sheer and perfect even colour. Out test pair was black and it showed every curve of the leg, simply gorgeous!
By no stretch of the imagination are these everyday stockings unless you have deep pockets but if you want to dress to impress... or dress to seduce... you really can’t do better. The toe is just sheer enough to wear with open toe or strappy shoes so long as the lighting is not too strong.
