The chart on the packet only goes to size 11, the bottom row is our estimate based on the size 12.5 sample

So what about in the packet?

Well great first impressions Gio wrap the stockings in tissue paper on the card, lovely attention to detail.   The feather light stockings simply flow into your hand, so light and fluid that for a moment we though there was only one stocking in the packet.

These classic fully fashioned stockings are knitted to shape rather than formed around a board, something most noticeable at the heel.  Toe, sole and heel are all reinforced but they are still very sheer indeed, more of a shadow than opaque like modern hosiery.   There is no separate toe seam, the incredibly fine main seam runs from the tip of the toe to the very top of the stocking top.

Every detail of these stockings harks back to a an age when quality and sophistication were everything, where it was about doing things right, not to a price.

The complete absence of Lycra in the yarn and the silky smooth finish mean that these stocking float over your skin rather than binding to it (completely smooth skin is a must).  This means that you really must get a top quality suspender belt to keep the tops in place and the seam straight, plus it means you are far more aware of the hosiery on your legs as you go about your day. A little bit of creasing at knee or ankle is inevitable after sitting but we noticed his quickly disappeared because of the way the stockings can move over your skin.

Not the darkest of stockings so certainly not recommended if you have bad blemishes you need to cover, perfect for adding an even colour to a smooth leg. Ever so classy for evening wear.

Sizing.. well spot on right at the top of the chart and we have no doubt that will hold true throughout the size range.

We have never seen hosiery that gives such an intense sense of femininity.

Be sure to always buy at least two pairs to be certain of having spares for those inevitable pulls and snags.

We thought we had the sizing of Gio Stockings fully understood then we found a pair of these labelled X-Tall; a size which seems not to exist in this style of stockings from Gio.  So we pulled out the black pair we had reviewed previously in size 12.5 and compared it directly with the new bronze pair in X-Tall.  The result? well pretty much the same size with the 12.5 just marginally bigger.

The black pair suffered a pulled thread on second wearing reinforcing our advice to always buy two or more pairs.

Incidentally the bronze shade is even more feminine than the black!
