Our Review Our mailbox has been filled recently with an influx of sheer stockings, mostly those requiring suspenders. For some though stockings and suspenders are for the bedroom and daytime hosiery is opaque tights in the colder days and then the fake tan comes out when it is too warm for the opaque tights... these hold ups from Pretty Polly House of Holland may be just the thing to stay covered and yet cool. There are just two sizes s/m for heights 5’0”-5’4” and m/l for heights 5’4”-5’8” hopefully we will find that they will cover a slightly wider range. The inner packet carries some sensible advice about wearing hold ups, what this amounts to is that the top won’t stick to skin that is oily or wet. Wow! When they say fringe they mean fringe. Below the plain stocking top are literally hundreds of 4cm long loops that seem to dance even as you pick up the stockings. Aside from the fringe there are no remarkable features, the legs are straight with a reinforced toe and plain 4cm deep top whick has a single wide silicone band to grip your leg. There is plenty of stretch, you would need to be a very leggy 5’8” to use all of it. On an average to athletic leg of 34” the top of the welt will be very nearly at crotch level if you use all the stretch... heed the warning about clean dry skin the silicone band will hold wherever you choose to place it. We love the slight sheen on the leg and the colour is perfectly even. Smooth and soft to the touch too these hold ups are a real treat for the senses. You really need to wear these hold ups with a short skirt and to set the tops of the stockings so that the fringe is just visible under the hem or go for broke and have a bit of bare leg showing between stocking top and skirt... £15 is not a lot to pay for great quality hold-ups that will make you the centre of attention. 20 May 2011 |
