Our Review We were very pleased to see a pair of La Perla stockings arrive for review as their tights have always been very popular on our sister site TightsFashion. A great start is the size chart on the back of the packet, it uses shoe sizes and height; in other words it is a proper stockings size chart rather than one lifted from the packet of the equivalent tights. Note to other manufacturers: hip size is irrelevant in sizing a garment that stops short of the top of the thigh. There are three sizes covering a range of heights from 4’10” to 6’0” and UK shoe sizes 2.5 to 8. On opening the the packet you are met with one of the biggest and fanciest lace tops we have ever seen, at just over 5” (130cm) deep. The sheer legs look very short by comparison. The legs are finished with a sandal toe and there is a little shaping at the heel, it is not a fully knitted heel so if you have bigger feet than the size chart recommends you will just lose length on the leg. The lace top has a complex design with the heaviest part of the design at the top; it is behind this that the two silicone bands to grip your leg are placed. Sizing is accurate and the silicone bands grip exceptionally well so if you try to get a little extra stretch out of the legs you can be confident your stockings will stay put. Fit on the leg is like a second skin and the colour is perfectly even. The look is quite sheer for 15 denier, more like 10-12, so you get the benefit of an ultra-sheer matt look without the fragility. £26.50 is a lot to pay for stockings but these are beautifully detailed. The lace top is exquisite and La Perla have taken the trouble to detail it is such a way that the reinforced part of the leg that goes into the seam is covered by a small lace fringe. All the seams are flat to give a smooth and comfortable fit. Without doubt among the classiest hold ups that you can buy. Far too pretty to be kept hidden from view we recommend wearing with a skirt that will give tantalising glimpses of stocking top. 8 March 2011 |
