Our Review The picture on the packet of these seamed hold up stockings suggests that these are quality stockings designed with a high degree of care and attention to detail. First impressions on opening the packet are very good, these are smooth stockings with a proper shaped heel that feel light for 20 denier. The toe and sole of the foot are reinforced, the seam runs from the top of the heel detail to the lace top. The lace top including the fringe to cover the seam onto the stocking is some 7cm which is considerably shallower than we had expected from the picture above. There are two silicone bands to grip the leg. Just two sizes are available, 1/2 and 3/4 with the sizing being determined by a combination of foot length (in cm), leg length and height. The sizing is absolutely spot on but getting to the top end of the size uses every bit of stretch available from the 12% Lycra in the fibre. If you do use all the stretch the silicone bands can grip well enough to maintain it. The heel detail is one of the most authentic and true to the heritage of classic seamed stockings that we have seen on a modern Lycra stocking, that said the look cannot compare with the real thing from the likes of Gio. The seam runs straight and true and enhances the look of the smooth 20 denier leg. Our test pair was let down by poor workmanship, on one stocking the seam between stocking and lace top had failed to connect with the lace top over a length of several cm. The resulting hole could be concealed under the fringe but would ultimately lead to a failure. A good effort undermined by lapses in workmanship and inspection, not really acceptable at a price of over £10. 31 March 2011 |
