Our Review

Always be careful about jumping to conclusions!. Our reviewer saw this packet with white stockings and wedding veil and immediate grabbed a white suspender belt ready to head off into some wedding day fantasy... only to open the packet and see that the stockings are black.

In their defence the packet notes say “wedding voile” too but black they are, no mistake. It seems there are two choices of colour, black and silk white to go with the choice of 4 sizes.

Luisa Maria Lugli Dea Calza Stockings (black)$ sizes according to the chart on the packet that is, StockingsHQ list only three.

Confused we press on with our black size 4 (Large) sample in black.

No further surprises these are very fine voile stockings that have a real seam that runs from the tip of the toe, under the foot and up the back of the leg to the join between stocking and welt.

The welt is sheer but carries a lace pattern from around half way up... one of the nicest pieces of lace work we have ever seen on pair of stockings, top quality.

To get the best out of these stockings you need to spend a little time getting the seam perfectly straight under your foot, the seam will then run true up the back of your leg.

The 5% Lycra in the fibre doesn’t provide much stretch so we found that the bottom of the welt was not very far above the knee.  The Lycra also failed to provide much help with fit, when seated the stockings bagged away from the back of the knee.

Happily the lace top does take a suspender clasp well, just so long as you pick a top quality belt with metal clasps.  (We chose a Nylon Dreams Powermesh 6 Strap belt for our test)

For pure even colour the fine voile could not be beaten, and the seam being properly sewn really set off the look and gave a slimming focus for the eye.

For small change short of £26 we expected something special... and in a way we got it, because even though these stockings seem too short in the leg compared to the welt, and despite fitting worse than just about any we have tried before they do feel special.   The word that came to mind is theatrical... wearing these stockings you feel you are wearing something made for an elegant wealthy lady from a time long past.

Editors note:  Pure silk tights fit worse, but only just.  And they felt special too!.

All in all a very confusing pair of stockings.  If you try them let us know your thoughts.
