Our Review
When we first looked at these stockings we started our review by saying:
“It seems a little unfair to stick the boot in right at the start of the review but what really caught our attention when we first saw these stockings for sale was the silver heel and toe detail where the 3% polypropylene is used. Well take a look at the pictures of the lovely Stacey to the right and tell me if you can see anything other than a straightforward black seam...
....No we can’t see either!
We can’t be sure whether this a manufacturing fault, a packing error or a change in the design and as this particular sample didn’t come from one of our regular suppliers we are not in a position to investigate.”
Well many months on we realised we were even more unfair than we realised. The e-mail confirming our order did say black/black not black/silver, the moral of the story being to read your order carefully before hitting the “buy” button.
What has not changed is that these are very nice seamed stockings. They feature a well finished reinforced toe detail and a shaped and reinforced heel. The heel has a classic point that is the starting point for the quite wide seam that runs up to the deep plain welt.
There are four sizes and the sizing it spot on, the larger the size the longer the foot too so the heels sits in the right place. The fit is very good and the seam sits perfectly straight, smooth to the touch and perfect even colour.
As classic black stockings with a black seam we are more than happy to recommend the style, hopefully one day we can get hold of the black with a silver seam that we had originally expected.
Silver on Black!
Special thanks to David at StockingsHQ who having read our review promptly put a pair of the silver on black stockings in the post for us to look at.
The new test pair came in the largest of the 4 sizes and like the black on black pair modelled by Stacey they are intended to fit up to a height of 6’1” (183cm) and a weight of 190 lb (85kg)
There is certainly no missing the silver Lurex seam and heel detail, we opened the packet near a window on a sunny day and were nearly blinded! Other than the Lurex detailing these are fairly plain stockings with a reinforced toe and a plain welt, you can see the welt detail common to both the black on black and silver on black in the picture to the right.
There is certainly no skimping in the length of either the foot or the leg so fit is very good. Get the heel set correctly and fix one suspender directly in line with the seam and the seam will sit perfectly straight.
The wide Lurex seam will divide opinion, it is certainly not a subtle detail; but then you won’t be wearing these stockings to the office, they are full on party stockings.
The silver on black pair are our favourite of the two, if only because they really stand out from the crowd.
