Our Review Over £16 for a plain semi-opaque hold up, quite a scary concept even from a premium brand like Max Mara. So what do you get for your money? Well you get a choice of two colours, black & playa, and three sizes; we have a large pair in black to review. First impressions are very important and here there were conflicting impressions, firstly these stockings feel quite heavy but at the same time look to be incredibly short; slightly worrying for stockings that claim to fit up to 6’1” height. The material is smooth and soft and oozes strength and quality. Taking a more systematic approach we found a very lightly reinforced toe detail and a shaped but unreinforced heel then just sheer material all the way to the welt. The lace top is attached to the sheer leg by means of a flat seam and there is no reinforced transition; a big plus if the strength is there as it means there will not be a darker strip showing below the lace top once the stockings are stretched on your leg. The lace top is just under 3” (7cm) deep and carried a highlight design in silver grey to emphasise the flower in the lace pattern. As is our habit when something looks as though it may be short we found the longest legs we could to test them on; we need not have worried a 34” leg was no problem at all, there was enough stretch for the top of the lace top to sit almost touching panties if required. The pretty lace top is made highly functional by two silicone bands that do a great job of holding the stockings in place. Fit is excellent, the Lycra provides not just stretch but makes this contour hugging hosiery too without a hint of bagging, sagging or bunching. The finish on the leg is matt and flawless with a smooth finish and perfectly even colour. The lightly reinforced toe detail is almost indistinguishable once you have these stockings on so open or peep toe shoes are an option. You really could wear these stockings any time of the day and for any occasion, but the price and the fact that the stand out design feature is in the top few inches means the may be more suitable for the evening than the office.
