Our Review

Part of the Spring/Summer 2011 collection Trasparenze Gillian Hold Ups have a lot to live up to as over the past few years the brand has been at the cutting edge of hosiery fashion both in terms of design and quality. Others are trying to steal their crown, some coming close others managing only to match Trasparenze prices.

MyTights supplied us with our test pair, it came in the only colour they stock (black) and the larger of the two sizes.  A quick check with the other retailers confirmed that black is the only option.

The business end of these hold ups is a plain 7cm deep welt that carries two silicone bands to grip the leg.  The welt has a little shine to it but it is most certainly functional rather than pretty.  Any pattern in the welt would in any event distract from the design on the legs.

All the pictures of these stockings seem to be from the back and you could be forgiven for thinking that they are lace stockings but the lace design just runs in a wide stripe down the back of the leg.  The sides and front of the legs are sheer 20 denier with a regular pattern of small dots (the picture to the left shoes how they will look from the side at calf level).

The lace pattern runs under the foot and is also present in the reinforced toe detail both under and above the toes.

15% Lycra provides plenty of stretch so having only two sizes in not an issue.  The sizing is accurate and even the leggiest lady should be able to wear the welt high on the leg. Fit is excellent.

We absolutely love these stockings.  All lace can be a bit much, all spots reminds us of hosiery from the last century (in blue for a reason I can’t fathom), but the two together work beautifully.  A smart and sophisticated look.

There nothing to dislike about these stockings, other than perhaps them being perhaps a little too dressy for you to be able to wear them as much as you would like. Trasparenze continue to set the bar high.
