Our Review
Readers of our sister site TightsFashion will know that in recent seasons Trasparenze have produced a lot of tights styles that mimic the look of stockings and suspenders, and we have seen their hold ups here too, but this is proof that they make classic stockings.
Trasparenze Pennac Stockings are a contrast seam style, that is to say that the seam detail is a different colour to the stockings. As far as we can tell the choice of colour is limited to a black seam on natural stockings. We have seen black on black but that is not a contrast is it!
The size chart on the packet is based on height and weight and details 4 sizes, there are however just two sizes 1/2 (small-medium) and 3/4 (tall-extra-tall). Based on heights only: small-medium (4'11" - 5'5"), tall-extra tall (5'6" - 5'11").
The packet provides no details as regards denier but our estimate is that they are 17-20 denier.
So how do they look? Well there is a reinforced toe in the same shade as the stocking and a reinforced sole in the contrast colour. The heel is shaped and is reinforced like the sole, there is then a pyramid style transition to the seam. The seam is a detail knitted in like the sole and heel and not a “genuine” seam. The is a diamond pattern in the sub-welt but the weld itself is plain to take a suspender clasp.
The seam is not quite as sharp as a real seam but the heel detail looks as good as the real thing. The slight sheen on the perfectly even finish is very attractive and gives your legs a very healthy look as well as a fashionable one.
The stretch makes for a great fit and it means that regardless of the size of your feet you should be able to get the heel sat correctly, something that can be a challenge when fully fashioned stockings and big feet come together. The welt takes a suspender clasp as well as any we have tried, and never have suspenders been fitted with so little fuss. The stretch also means that you would be a very leggy 5’11” to use all of it and all your suspender adjustment. Our model with a 33” leg wore her straps fully shortened.
We tested with the StockingsHQ Classic Suspense: 6 Strap Plain Front Suspender Belt and the ease of fastening may be as much to do with this as the stockings, whichever the combination was great.
If you have normally worn tights have been a bit scared of stockings and suspenders this combination is for you. Easy to put on and once on the feel is very much like tights without the enclosed feeling.
The contrast seam may be a bit much for the office but ideal for any daytime or early evening event.
