Vixen Isadora Ribbon Lace Seamed Stockings

Our Review

It is always interesting to see the first pair of stockings from a brand you have not encountered before... no idea what to expect and no preconceptions. Vixen is sub-brand of Couture and our friends at TightsFashion have looked at their tights in the past.

Some companies say “one size fits most” and then give very narrow limits, Vixen take a different approach, they make a medium size to fit heights from 5’0” to 5’8” but don’t make a small or large size.  Same result, more honest presentation.

Wow... all you see when you take the inner bag from the outer packet is the welt, it is huge!  7” or 18cm of red and black lace.  Open a stocking out and you see that the lace welt is closed with a ribbon with the two ends left free for you to tie in a bow. Quite simply we have never seen anything like it.

The sheer leg is soft, shiny and unshaped and features an appliqué seam which joins the reinforced toe/sole/heel at a point.

Sizing first... If you are 5’0” tall these stockings will probably be too long for you.  We had no trouble stretching them to the top of a 35” leg, and there was enough length/stretch in the foot to cope with the biggest feet we could find.

The lace welt looks a treat and took the metal clasps of our StockingsHQ suspender belt perfectly.  Don’t try with a cheap belt though, the lace if heavy in parts and a cheap clasp will ruin the effect.  The ribbon detail at the back is effective but the ribbon to tie in a bow we found a bit too much, some liberal pruning required.

You really can’t fake the look of a seam, once you have seen the real thing these seam like designs will always disappoint up close.  That said it sat straight with ease and would pass muster from a distance.

All the fancy details worked very well, so a pity then that there was a little unevenness of colour and tiny holes in both out test stockings.  All that work on the lace top wasted by sewing it to poor quality stocking.  Such a shame.

By all means buy for a fun night out but don’t expect the stockings to be around for a second date.
